Jonah Hill: I try to be different

Jonah Hill is always trying to do “different” things.

The actor doesn’t want to get pigeon-holed solely as a comic and feels lucky to have got the chance to prove himself in dramatic movies like Moneyball.

However, the star understands how easy it is to be typecast.

“It’s easy. I’m guilty of it as well. Why waste the time trying to get to know every single person that you don’t even know in your real life when you have friends and family you need to get to know,” he told Deadline. “So if someone is an actor or entertainer, it’s easy [for a director] to say, ‘That guy does this thing, on to the next.’ I’m guilty of it as anyone, that’s why I make an effort to do different things. I’ve been lucky between Cyrus and Moneyball that people have accepted me as a dramatic actor.”

Jonah also spoke about improvising during scenes.

The comedian is known for being able to act on instinct and explained that it doesn’t matter if you veer away from the script as long as you get the meaning across.

“We would improvise [on Moneyball], but when Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian write the script, it’s less of an improvisational environment. Bennett [Miller] is a detailed, elegant filmmaker and I think he was searching for those little raw moments. He taught me a lot about the words not mattering in that it’s not the words you’re saying, it’s what you’re feeling and sometimes the words may not match up with what you’re feeling at all,” he explained.
