Madagascar 3 sweeps box office
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted debuted in the number one position at the domestic box office this weekend.
The DreamWorks animated family film earned $60.4 million in theatres. Actors Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer all lend their voices to characters in the film. The film cost $145 million to produce and has thus far generated $135.8 million in gross profits worldwide.
Director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller Prometheus fell short of the number one spot in its debut, accruing $50 million and clenching second place. Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce are members of the star-studded ensemble. Prometheus’ estimated production budget was around $130 million and the film is expected to become profitable within a week.Snow White and the Huntsman, which stars Kristen Stewart and features Charlize as the evil queen Ravenna, took third this week with $23 million. The film has been at the box office for two weeks and has so far amassed ticket sales of $98.5 million.© Cover Media
