Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, criticized Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, accusing the company of being “super greedy” in taking credit for advertisers’ campaigns on its platform.
The issue was raised by a follower of Musk who noticed discrepancies in conversion attribution between Meta and another platform, referred to as “X.” Despite running campaigns on both platforms, most conversions were attributed to Meta, with “X” reporting minimal conversions.
In response, the owner of “X” acknowledged their own shortcomings in claiming credit for conversions and criticized Meta for its aggressive approach in claiming credit.
Another follower predicted that Meta would eventually need to revise its attribution model to provide more accurate data to advertisers, as some were already observing a decline in results.
The rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg is well-documented, with rumors circulating about a potential showdown between the two, which was later cancelled.
