Nirmal Kapoor, the matriarch of the Kapoor family and mother to Boney, Anil, Sanjay, and Reena Kapoor Marwah, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 90. She died around 5:25 PM at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital due to age-related health issues .
Her passing prompted an outpouring of grief from the Bollywood community. Prominent figures such as lyricist Javed Akhtar, filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, and actress Rani Mukerji were among those who visited the Kapoor residence to pay their respects . Family members, including Janhvi Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, and Shanaya Kapoor, also gathered to honor her memory .
The funeral was held on May 3 at 11:30 AM at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai . Anil and Boney Kapoor were seen arriving together, supporting each other during the rites. A heartfelt video captured Anil, Arjun, and Sanjay Kapoor accompanying their mother’s mortal remains, reflecting the family’s deep sorrow .
Boney Kapoor shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, stating, “She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories. Her generous spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts—forever cherished, forever missed.”
