Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, affectionately known as “Bharat Kumar,” passed away on April 4, 2025, at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan paid tribute to the late actor, acknowledging his significant contributions to Indian cinema. On X (formerly Twitter), Shah Rukh Khan expressed:

“Manoj Kumar ji made films that uplifted our country, our cinema, and focused on unity with unmatched sincerity. A legend in every sense. His films shaped an era and left a mark on our cinema. Thank you, sir. You will always be ‘Bharat’ to us.”

This homage is particularly noteworthy given the history between the two actors. In 2007, Manoj Kumar took legal action against Shah Rukh Khan and Eros International over a scene in the film “Om Shanti Om” that he found objectionable. Kumar sought ₹100 crore in damages, alleging defamation. Despite this past dispute, Shah Rukh Khan’s recent tribute underscores the respect and admiration he holds for Manoj Kumar’s legacy in the film industry.

Manoj Kumar’s films have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, and his portrayal of patriotic themes earned him the enduring title of “Bharat Kumar.” His contributions continue to be celebrated by both peers and fans alike.
