Mumbai Police reported on Wednesday that a man has been detained for threatening TV actress Uorfi Javed with rape and death.
The man, Naveen Giri, was taken into jail by Goregaon Police after a FIR was filed under the IT Act as well as sections 354(A) (sexual harassment), 354(D) (stalking), 509, and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The social media influencer received threatening messages from Naveen over WhatsApp. Meanwhile, the social media influencer was reportedly detained by the police for allegedly shooting a video in a revealing outfit in Dubai.
However, the actress later clarified that her clothes had nothing to do with the Dubai police landing on the sets of her shoot, but rather, it was some miscommunication by her production team regarding the timings of the shoot at the public place.
Javed had already attacked author Chetan Bhagat with all of his might when the latter made a contentious remark about the “Daayan” actor at a literary event.
“Youth, especially boys, have found their phones to be a fantastic source of diversion, spending hours simply scrolling through Instagram Reels. Everyone is familiar with Uorfi Javed. How will you use her pictures? Is it going to affect your examinations or will you go to a job interview and claim to be familiar with all of the interviewer’s attire?” stated Bhagat.
He continued, “On one side, we have a youth that is protecting our country at Kargil, while on the other side, we have another young who is watching Uorfi Javed’s photographs hiding in their blankets.
Uorfi posted the following in her Instagram stories: “He and other men of his kind will never accept their own faults before blaming the ladies. You sickos out there need to stop supporting rape culture. Blaming women’s attire for the actions of men is so 80s Mr Chetan Bhagat”.
She also posted screenshots of purportedly leaked WhatsApp chats from Bhagat from the 2018 Me Too movement.
The actor of “Bepannaah” was most recently featured in season 14 of the reality television programme “MTV Splitsvilla.”
