A tragic helicopter crash occurred near Gangnani in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, on the morning of May 8, 2025. The helicopter, operated by AeroTrans Services Private Limited, was en route from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun to Kharsali helipad near Yamunotri, carrying seven individuals, including the pilot.
The aircraft crashed into a 200-250 meter deep gorge around 8:45 AM, resulting in the deaths of six people: five passengers and the pilot, Captain Robin Singh. The deceased passengers have been identified as Kala Soni (61), Vijaya Reddy (57), and Ruchi Aggarwal (56) from Mumbai; Radha Aggarwal (79) from Uttar Pradesh; and Vedavati Kumari (48) from Andhra Pradesh. One passenger, Bhaskar (51) from Andhra Pradesh, sustained serious injuries and has been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment.
Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local authorities. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
