A 39-year-old start-up founder from Bengaluru, Suchana Seth, who serves as the CEO of the artificial intelligence company Mindful AI Lab, has been apprehended for the alleged murder of her four-year-old son in Goa. The tragic incident unfolded in an apartment in Candolim, North Goa, with the motive still unknown.
Ms. Seth and her son checked into Sol Banyan Grande in Candolim on Saturday, but by Monday, she had left the hotel alone, carrying her son’s body in a bag. Despite suggestions to take a flight, she insisted on a taxi to Bengaluru. The hotel staff, noticing the child’s absence, discovered blood stains in her apartment after she departed.
Concerned staff reported to the police, leading them to contact the taxi driver. When questioned about her son, Ms. Seth claimed he was with a friend, providing a fake address. Suspecting foul play, the police, speaking in Konkani to ensure she couldn’t understand, instructed the driver to divert to the nearest police station in Chitradurga.
Subsequently, Ms. Seth was arrested at the Chitradurga police station, and her son’s lifeless body was found in the bag she was carrying. Notably, Ms. Seth had been recognized on the LinkedIn page of Mindful AI Lab as one of the top “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021.” Her own LinkedIn account highlighted her fellowship at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Centre and over 12 years of experience as a data scientist, mentoring teams, and scaling machine learning solutions in start-ups and industry research labs.
