Amaravati, December 7: The severe cyclonic storm Michong that hit Andhra Pradesh has caused huge damage to crops. Severe cyclonic storm Michong has arrived in the Bay of Bengal. Due to this, some parts of Andhra Pradesh have been flooded due to heavy rains. Due to heavy rains in low-lying areas, lakes, tanks, and drains have overflowed and roads have been flooded. Some villages have been cut off from the cyclone-affected districts.
Due to the severe cyclonic storm, Michong, trees, and electric poles have fallen and water sources have been filled with water. Due to this road connectivity was disrupted in the affected areas.
The cyclone crossed the coast near Bapatla on Tuesday and caused heavy rains along with strong winds. The districts affected by the cyclone are Bapatla, Guntur, NTR, Tirupati, Krishna, Palanadu, Nellore, Eluru, East Godavari, West Godavari, Anakapalle, Alluri Sitamaraju. More than thousands of acres of crops were damaged in these districts.
When the crops were ready to be harvested, this heavenly disaster like a cyclone came and the crops were destroyed. Farmers are shocked by this loss. Cyclone Michong has caused extensive damage to paddy, maize, cotton, and chili crops.
Collectors, SPs, and other senior officials of cyclone-affected districts were informed by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that the focus should be on restoring normalcy.
A review meeting was held in the camp office on the damage caused by the cyclone. In this meeting, the Chief Minister asked to assist the affected families. He told the officials that the work of removing water from submerged agricultural areas should be done on priority with the available human resources and asked to protect the crops as per the SOP issued by RBK. Regarding seed supply, he said that the agriculture department should be ready to supply seeds on an 80 percent subsidy.
Be it the matter of protection of crops or the purchase of wet paddy. All the farmers who are suffering losses will be provided all possible assistance by the government and they will also be given compensation.
He further said that it is also very important to pay attention to cleanliness. If cleanliness is not taken care of, diseases will start spreading. Therefore the official machinery in the affected areas should focus on restoring roads and supplying power. He said that the government will stand with all the employees who are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
District collectors and special officers in the affected areas took timely precautionary measures and helped the victims. For his good works, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy praised them and further said that you people should not worry about finances and go ahead to provide financial help to the affected families. He said that if we were victims today, we should provide financial assistance to the victims in the same way as we expect the same help as victims. He said that the victims should feel that the Collector has come to their rescue in this difficult time.
He has assured the victims that Rs 10,000 should be paid to those whose houses were damaged in this cyclone. Those who are taking shelter in relief camps should be treated well. Giving strict instructions, he said that when the situation becomes better and people leave for their homes, they should be compulsorily given compensation and ration.
A police constable from Cuddapah was killed when a tree fell on him during relief operations. For whose family the Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 30 lakh.
