As many as 29 people have died and more than 60 people have fallen ill and have been admitted to various hospitals in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district. This information was shared by officials on Thursday.

District Collector of Kallakurichi M.S. Prashant confirmed that 29 people have died in Kallakurichi due to alleged consumption of illegal liquor.

On this incident Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed grief. He ordered strict action against the officials who failed to prevent the incident.

Chief minister M.K. on social media platform X. In a post, Stalin said, I am saddened and shocked to hear the news of the death of people who drank adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi. All those involved in this crime have been arrested. Strict action is also being taken against the officials who failed to prevent this incident.

Governor R.N. Ravi also expressed grief over the incident and wished those who are sick due to drinking poisoned liquor get well soon.

He said that he was deeply shocked by the death due to illegal drinking in Kallakurichi. Many others are also in critical condition due to consumption of poisonous liquor and are fighting for their lives in various hospitals. To the bereaved families, Governor R.N. Ravi expressed his condolences and prayed for the speedy recovery of those admitted to the hospitals.

Governor R.N. Ravi said that from different parts of our state there are often sad news of people dying due to drinking illegal liquor. This shows the failure to stop the production and consumption of illegal liquor. This is a matter of serious concern.
