On Wednesday morning, the Nanded Rural police in Maharashtra filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil. He stands accused of compelling Dr. Shyamrao Wakode, the acting dean of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital, to clean a toilet. This alleged action followed the reporting of 31 deaths at the hospital.
The authorities will now proceed by recording Patil’s statement and taking appropriate actions.
Patil has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal intimidation and defamation, as well as under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, as confirmed by a police officer.
During the incident, while Dr. Wakode was made to clean the toilet, Patil and his associates purportedly filmed the act. This video was subsequently circulated and became viral on social media platforms, depicting the MP instructing the dean to perform the cleaning task.
Patil was recorded as saying, “You do not have simple mugs in the toilet, and you shout at people who do not use toilets. Do you doctors and the dean behave similarly at your home?” This incident occurred at Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital.
