New Delhi, January 2 (UITV)- On the occasion of the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the chaadar to Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Front National President Jamal Siddiqui this evening and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take an important initiative on the occasion of Urs celebrated every year at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju himself will go to the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer with this chaadar. This is the 11th time when a chaadar will be sent to Ajmer Dargah on behalf of Prime Minister Modi.
For this event, Prime Minister Modi will hand over the chaadar to various parties associated with the dargah in Delhi and after this a delegation will leave for Ajmer from Delhi. The Ministry of Minority Affairs has speeded up its work regarding the preparations of this event and names have also been sought for this event from organizations like Dargah Committee, Dargah Diwan, Anjuman Syed Jadgan.
With the sighting of the moon on Wednesday, the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer, Rajasthan has begun. On this occasion, Haji Syed Salman Chishti, chairman of the Sufi Foundation and the Gaddinshin of Ajmer Dargah, congratulated everyone. Talking to IANS, Haji Syed Salman Chishti said, “The annual Urs of Garib Nawaz has begun with the sighting of the moon on Wednesday.” He asked everyone to pray for the service of the Dargah and congratulated them on the occasion.
The tradition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi sending the Chadar has been going on for the last 10 years. Haji Syed Salman Chishti said, “This tradition has been going on since the country’s independence in 1947. Every year, whoever is the Prime Minister of the country, sends a Chadar to the Dargah as well as a message to the country, in which prayers are offered for peace and brotherhood.” This tradition not only promotes the spirit of brotherhood and harmony in India, but it also shows the importance of Sufi dargahs, which promote goodwill and peace among all religions.
The flag ceremony was also performed at Ajmer Dargah on the occasion of Urs at the end of last year, which concluded on 28 December 2024. This ritual is performed by the Gauri family of Bhilwara. According to the Gauri family, this tradition has been going on for many decades. In the year 1928, Fakhruddin Gauri’s Pir-Murshid Abdul Sattar Badshah started this ritual. After this, this responsibility was handed over to his grandfather Lal Mohammad Gauri from 1944. After his death, his son Moinuddin Gauri performed this ritual from the year 1991 and since the year 2007, his grandson Fakhruddin Gauri has been performing this ritual.
This is proof of how deep and important these traditions and rituals are in Ajmer Dargah and its surrounding areas.
