Russia’s Putin holds phone call with PM Modi, conveys his inability to attend G20 Summit in Delhi

Aug 30 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders also discussed progress on a number of bilateral cooperation topics and exchanged views on regional and global matters of mutual interest, including the recently ended BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

According to the Kremlin’s readout, “a mutual commitment” to the consistent implementation of “large-scale projects” in the energy sector, as well as combined cooperation on expanding international transport and logistics infrastructure, was “expressed” during the conversation.

President Putin expressed his inability to attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi on September 9-10, 2023, and stated that Russia would be represented by the Russian Federation’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.

While expressing sympathy for Russia’s decision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked President Putin for Russia’s continued support for all initiatives under India’s G20 presidency.

The two leaders decided to maintain contact.
