The Bengaluru police, investigating the gruesome murder of Mahalaxmi, have revealed that her colleague and alleged lover, Mukthiranjan Roy, killed her in a fit of rage before dismembering her body into 59 pieces using an axel blade.
Roy, Mahalaxmi’s team leader at a mall, allegedly smothered her to death, dragged her body into the bathroom, and committed the horrific act of chopping it into pieces. Afterward, he meticulously stuffed the dismembered body parts into a refrigerator and cleaned the bathroom with acid in an attempt to erase any evidence. To avoid suspicion, he even cleaned the house to make it appear as if nothing unusual had occurred, according to police sources.
In a suicide note found in his diary, Roy confessed to the brutal crime, explaining that he was fed up with Mahalaxmi’s behavior. “I have killed my lover Mahalaxmi on September 3,” he wrote. “I was frustrated with her conduct. We argued over personal matters, and she assaulted me. Enraged, I killed her,” Roy’s note stated.
Roy was later found hanging from a tree in Pandi village, Bhadrak district, Odisha. Locals spotted his body after he arrived in the village on a two-wheeler and disappeared into a remote area.

Police sources revealed that Roy had been missing from work since September 1, which coincided with Mahalaxmi’s last day at her job. The murder came to light on September 21, when neighbors noticed a foul odor coming from Mahalaxmi’s house and alerted her family. Her mother and sister arrived at her home, only to discover the horrifying scene. Although the refrigerator was still functioning, the remains had already been infested with maggots.
Residents of the area described Mahalaxmi as someone who kept to herself and had minimal interaction with her neighbors. She was married and had a child but lived separately from her husband. Police became suspicious of Roy when he went absent from work after the discovery of Mahalaxmi’s remains, and further investigation revealed his close relationship with her, as well as frequent phone calls between the two.
