The Telangana government on Sunday decided to change the abbreviation ‘TS’ to ‘TG’. This decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting by Chief Minister A. Taken under the chairmanship of Revanth Reddy.
‘TG’ will replace ‘TS’ in the Central Government Gazette after the decision of the Cabinet.
Telangana was formed in 2014, after which ‘TS’ was chosen as the short name of the state by the then TRS government.
Briefing media persons about the decisions taken by the Cabinet, Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that the previous government took the decision to abbreviate Telangana as ‘TS’ without following any rule. The previous government had taken such a decision as per its wish, rhyming with TRS.
Now that the abbreviation of Telangana will be ‘TG’ instead of ‘TS’, ‘TG’ will now be used as prefix in the vehicle registration number.
The cabinet decision was taken to implement an announcement made by Revanth Reddy during the election campaign. He had said that ‘TG’ was changed to ‘TS’ only to please the TRS party.
The Cabinet also decided to change the Telangana Talli statue to reflect the sentiments of the Telangana people. It has decided to adopt Andesari’s “Jai Jai Ho Telangana” as the state song. Regarding the State Emblem, it has been decided that a new State Emblem will also be designed in consultation with all stakeholders.
The cabinet decided to hold the state assembly session from February 8. In this the Governor’s address was approved. It was also decided to implement two guarantees – free electricity up to 200 units to households and gas cylinder for Rs 500 after discussion in the Assembly.
The cabinet also took the decision to conduct caste census in the state. Many other major decisions taken by the Cabinet like – upgrading of 65 government ITIs as Centers of Advanced Technology, notifying Kodangal Area Development Authority, framing guidelines for granting remission to convicts, creation of 100 High Courts Allotment of acres of land etc. was taken.
