Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to prohibit Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s election campaign, claiming it poses a threat to the nation’s unity and social harmony.
In a statement, Prasad said, “Rahul Gandhi’s unfounded allegations and disrespectful remarks have hurt the sentiments of farmers in Haryana, violating electoral guidelines for political gain.”
He called for the ECI to take swift action, accusing Gandhi of running an unlawful campaign that disrupts national unity and undermines social cohesion. Prasad stated that Gandhi’s recent comments during a rally in Haryana incited farmers with misleading information, breaching election regulations.
Prasad also criticized Gandhi for making derogatory remarks about India and its people while abroad, which, he claimed, disrespected national pride and incited division. “He continues to attack Prime Minister Modi, the BJP, and industrialists with baseless allegations,” Prasad said.
According to Prasad, Gandhi’s rhetoric undermines Indian democracy and threatens peace. He highlighted past instances where Gandhi’s comments, especially about Sikhs abroad, caused significant outrage, asserting that these repeated actions jeopardize social harmony.
The BJP leader pointed out that PM Modi’s administration focuses on national welfare through programs such as affordable housing, free healthcare, clean water access, and banking for all. These initiatives, Prasad noted, reflect Modi’s commitment to social justice, inspired by leaders like Saint Ravidas, Kabir Das, Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule, and Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Prasad concluded by urging the ECI to take immediate and strict action against Gandhi, stating that his comments not only insult freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar but also threaten India’s unity. He referenced a defamation case in Maharashtra where Nashik district police summoned Gandhi for remarks about Savarkar.
The BJP spokesperson reiterated the need for the ECI’s intervention, warning that Gandhi’s speeches, if left unchecked, could continue to erode social harmony and national integrity.
