Germany wants to strengthen multilateralism with China: Angela Merkel

Berlin, May 20 (UITV/IANS) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said her country wants to strengthen multilateralism with China and she is looking forward to her visit to China next week.

Merkel will visit China next Thursday and Friday at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. It will be her first trip to China after re-election and the 11th as the German chancellor, Xinhua news agency reported.

Merkel said in a podcast published on Saturday that as Germany and China have agreed on regular political dialogue and intergovernmental consultations, she went to China to conduct these talks on average once a year.

BSF, Pakistan Rangers agree to keep peace on border

Jammu, May 20 (UITV/IANS) - The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers on Sunday agreed to maintain peace on the international border in Jammu region, BSF sources said.

BSF and Rangers officials spoke to one another over telephone, three days after four civilians and a BSF officer were killed in shelling and firing by the Pakistan Rangers in R.S. Pura, Arnia and Bishnah sectors.

Ten other civilians were also injured on the Indian side, and the Pakistani shelling forced largescale evacuation of people from near the border. Pakistan said it also suffered civilian casualties in retaliatory firing by the BSF.

4 Taliban insurgents killed in Afghan air strikes

Kabul, May 20 (UITV/IANS) - At least four Taliban insurgents were killed following an Afghan Special Operations Forces-related air strikes in the southern province of Zabul, officials said on Sunday.

"The strikes were conducted against militants of Taliban terrorist outfit in Shahjoy and Shinkay districts and two insurgents' motorcycles were also destroyed," Xinhua quoted Operational Coordination Group Afghanistan as saying.

Afghan forces and the NATO and US-led coalition troops continued in mopping-up operations as spring and summer, known as fighting season, is drawing near in the mountainous country.

UAE-based Aries Group to produce film using CSR funds

Kollam (Kerala) May 20 (UITV/IANS) - UAE-based Aries Group on Saturday announced it will use its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to produce 1,000 regional films in the next five years under its "Project Indywood".

The project will be launched with the pooja of a film titled "Aickkarakonathe Bhishaguaranmaar" at Punalur near here on Sunday, said Aries Group Chairman and CEO Sohan Roy.

"'Aickkarakonathe Bhishaguaranmaar; will mark the launch of Project Indywood's ambitious plan to produce 1,000 regional movies in India in the next five years. Besides prominent actors from the industry, twenty talents discovered through the national-level auditions conducted by Indywood Talent Hunt will play important roles in the movie," he told media here.

Biju Majeed will direct the film, whose script is written by K. Shibu Raj. P.C. Lal will wield the camera and Biju Ram will compose the music for the film, which would be shot in Kerala and completed in one schedule.

Bacteria in placenta responsible for preterm births

London, May 20 (UITV/IANS) - Scientists have found a higher number of pathogenic bacteria in placentas from women who delivered prematurely, supporting the presumption that maternal infection may cause preterm birth -- less than 37 weeks gestation.

Contradicting general belief, traces of the bacteria were found in healthy placentas as well.

These bacteria have been previously reported as opportunistic intra-uterine -- within the uterus -- pathogens, and are highly correlated with the incidence of premature birth and miscarriage.

San Francisco, May 20 (UITV/IANS) - A law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple alleging that MacBook and MacBook Pro's "butterfly" keyboard design is "prone to fail".

According to a report in Forbes, Apple was hit with the lawsuit over the design and functionality of its "butterfly" keyboard system after a string of complaints that alleged defects in the keyboard's design.

Law firm Girard Gibbs filed the lawsuit on behalf of two MacBook Pro owners after nearly 25,000 people signed a petition requesting Apple to address the problem.
