US must compromise to get UK trade deal, says Johnson

Biarritz (France), Aug 25 (UITV/IANS)- The US must lift restrictions on UK businesses if it wants a trade deal with the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said.

Travelling to the G7 summit here in France, Johnson said there were "very considerable barriers in the US to British businesses", the BBC reported on Saturday.

Johnson said he had already spoken to US President Donald Trump about his concerns, adding he would do so again when they meet on Sunday morning.

He will also hold talks with EU Council President Donald Tusk.

S.Korean Navy launches defence drills

Seoul, Aug 25 (UITV/IANS)- The South Korean armed forces launched a two-day military exercise to defend the easternmost islets of Dokdo on Sunday, in a show of its staunch defence stance against Japan's claim over the cluster of rocks in the East Sea.

The forces announced that the drill involveed Navy, Air Force and Army forces, such as naval warships and aircraft, as well as Army and Marine Corp troops, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The drills have been held twice a year, usually in June and December.

Kashmiri Pandit diaspora meet in Houston

Houston (Texas), Aug 18 (UITV/IANS)- Celebrating the abrogation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKPD) organised a meeting of the community members in Houston with the head of BJP's Foreign Affairs Department, Vijay Chauthaiwale.

All the heads of Kashmiri Pandits' community organisations from India and community members from Australia, the UK, Germany, Singapore, India and the US connected with the meeting via teleconference on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Chauthaiwale said that he could feel the joy, positive vibrations and excitement in the community following the recent transformational changes in India.

"The abrogation of Article 370 was a historic moment... It was the result of the strong ideological commitment, will to execute, emotional involvement, strategic implementation and focussed techniques to execute the strategy that our visionary Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and his team had shown," he said.

Surinder Kaul, international coordinator of GKPD, said: "It was time to celebrate the power and diversity of our great nation."

Facebook downplayed Cambridge Analytica data scandal

San Francisco, Aug 24 (UITV/IANS)- Facebook in 2015 was aware that UK-based political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica may have been gathering users' personal data but downplayed the whole episode till a newspaper revealed the truth three months later, show new documents.

According to a report in CNET on Friday, internal emails by Facebook Deputy General Counsel Paul Grewal, made available by the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, revealed Facebook was concerned about the "sketchy" Cambridge Analytica in September 2015.

The email correspondence started in September 2015 and ran through February 2016.
