Covid-sceptic Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tests positive for disease

Brasilia, July 8 (UITV/IANS)- Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, who made light of the coronavirus pandemic and routinely ignored all precautions, has tested positive for the disease, reports said on Tuesday.

Bolsonaro, who repeatedly played down the risks posed by the virus which he termed "a little flu" and asserting that he would not be seriously affected by it, came out positive after undergoing the test - his fourth - on developing high fever, the BBC reported.

Govt panel to probe violations by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation on Chinese Funding

New Delhi, July 8 (UITV/IANS) The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has set up an inter-ministerial committee to probe the various violations of legal provisions by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

The committee will coordinate investigations into violation of provisions like the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) by these foundations, a Home Ministry official said.

The official said that a Special Director of Enforcement Directorate will head the committee.

China rolls out strict curbs on large withdrawals after bank runs

Beijing, July 8 (UITV/IANS)- China is imposing checks on large banking withdrawals following fears of bank runs and rising bad debts among the lenders.

As per media reports, limits on businesses and individuals withdrawing large amounts of cash, without prior approval, will first be launched as a pilot project in Hebei province, and then extended to other regions, according to the People's Bank of China.

The new restrictions require lenders to report withdrawals of upwards of 100,000-300,000 yuan for individuals, and 500,000 yuan for businesses.

155 companies of indian origin have over $22 bn investments in US: Report

New Delhi, June 17 (UITV/IANS) A total of 155 companies with origins in India are responsible for generating over $22 billion in investments and nearly 1.25 lakh jobs in the US, according to a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The report titled 'Indian Roots, American Soil 2020' showed that the states with the top concentrations of Indian companies reporting were New Jersey, Texas, California, New York, Illinois and Georgia.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) and research and development expenditure of the companies stood at $175 million and $900 million, respectively.

Texas, California, New Jersey, New York, and Florida are home to the greatest number of workers in the US directly employed by the reporting Indian companies.

The surveyed companies disclosed the highest amounts of foreign direct investment (FDI) were in Texas, New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts.

Indian investments in 20 US states stand at over $100 million each, showed the survey.

San Francisco, July 7 (UiTV/IANS) - Hot weather may make people more aggressive but the rising mercury may not result in more angry tweets or hateful Facebook posts from the social media users, an interesting study has revealed. However, the first-of-its-kind research found that incidence of angry tweets is highest on Mondays.

The study by The Conversation that involved researchers from Macquarie University in Sydney, found that angry tweets increased as the weather turned cool.

As daily maximum temperatures rose, angry tweet counts decreased.

The event will begin at 7.30 pm India time, and will be live-streamed on the company's official website.

The smartphone maker has shared a video related to the event but hasn't revealed much in the teaser itself.
