Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz calls for snap election

Vienna, May 19 (UITV/IANS)- Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has asked for a snap election after his Vice-Chancellor, Heinz-Christian Strache, resigned over a corruption scandal.

Kurz's centre-right People's Party is in government with Strache's far-right Freedom Party. The Freedom Party leader stepped down after secret video footage emerged, the BBC reported on Saturday.

The video appears to show him discussing government contracts with an alleged Russian investor.

New Delhi, May 19 (UITV/IANS)- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to voters to exercise their right in record numbers and said that one vote will shape India's development trajectory.

"Today is the final phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. I urge all those voting in this phase to vote in record numbers. Your one vote will shape India's development trajectory in the years to come.

"I also hope first time voters vote enthusiastically," Modi, who is in Kedarnath, said in a series of tweets.

SL President frees 762 prisoners on Buddha Purnima

Colombo, May 19 (UITV/IANS)- Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday granted amnesty to 762 prisoners to mark Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak festival.

An event was held at the Welikada prison to free the inmates -- 736 males and 26 females -- in the presence of the President, the Justice Ministry was cited as saying by the Colombo Gazette.

All those freed were in jail for minor offences and did not include convicts jailed for rape, child abuse, heroin use and drug trafficking.

Hyderabad man stabbed to death in London

Hyderabad, May 10 (UITV/IANS) - A 29-year-old man from Hyderabad was stabbed to death in London by an unidentified man, according to information reaching his family here on Friday.

Mohammed Nadeemuddin was found murdered in the cellar of a supermarket where he was employed.

A co-worker is suspected to have killed Nadeemuddin over a dispute. Police was questioning the suspect, said to be an Asian.

A resident of Noor Khan Bazar in the old city of Hyderabad, Nadeemuddin had gone to London six years ago and was working at a Tesco supermarket.

Nadeemuddin's wife is a doctor and recently joined him in London.

The victim's family members have appealed to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to help them in reaching London.

The crime came to light when Nadeemuddin did not answer phone calls of his family members, who then alerted the management of the supermarket. The management informed the police who found his body with stab injuries in the cellar.

Google to shut down Jump VR platform in June

San Francisco, May 19 (UITV/IANS)- A dwindling user base has forced Google to shut down its Jump virtual reality (VR) platform that would go offline by the end of June.

The company is telling users to download their data before it shuts down the video stitching platform completely, Engadget reported late Saturday.

Launched in 2015, Jump is Google's professional VR video solution. It makes 3D 360-degree video production at scale possible with automated video stitching using the power of Cloud.
