Cleveland Heights Police arrest suspect in teen’s fatal shooting at eatery

15-year-old Sunny Ravi Patel
Cleveland Heights, Oct 19 (UITV)- Rarely does a name capture the essence of a person. But when came to Sunny Patel, friends say “sunny” was the perfect way to describe him. The 15-year-old died from a single gunshot Friday night while working the register register at his family’s Mr. Hero restaurant in Cleveland Heights. Charges are expected to be filed soon on a suspect arrested with connection with Sunny’s murder. Police say the man was taken into custody after officers spotted a person matching the suspect’s description. Police sources say the man may be a suspect in other robberies as well. Authorities have said an armed suspect entered a Mr. Hero store on October 14 and shot the boy once in the head before taking money from the cash register and fleeing. Officers were called to the Mr. Hero on South Taylor Road around 8 p.m. on reports of a robbery and shots fired inside the store. They arrived to find Patel with a gunshot wound in his head. He was taken to University Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Surveillance photos show a suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a rag across his face enter the store with a gun at his side. Patel was a sophomore at Mayfield High School and his parents’ only child. On Monday, hundreds of people attended Patel’s funeral in Parma. They included several classmates, who praised Patel for his humor and work ethic.
