Dudhsagar Falls

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UiTV) - Dudhsagar Falls located in the  Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park of western ghats on the Mondavi River and lies in the Goa state. It has a height of 310 meters with an average width of 30 meters. The waterfall is very close to the Karnataka and Maharastra border. The Mondavi River originates from the western ghats and joins the Arabian sea flowing through Goa and Karnataka. The western ghats are dense and deciduous with rich biodiversity. In the rainy season, the falls are a bit flooded.

The view of the fall is majestic as white water gushing over the steep face of the mountain from a height of 310 meters. The appearance of the water is white and hence the fall named Dudhsagar falls, in Hindi Dudh means milk.  

Dudhsagar trek is also a famous trek in the western ghats. Trekking can be done over the railway tracks or by taking a jeep safari tour to the Dudhsagar waterfalls. There are two different ways of visiting Dudhsagar falls that are trek to waterfalls which is best suited in the monsoon months June to September, Jeep safari to the falls that starts post-monsoon and ends till May. The Dudhsagar waterfall is a four-tiered waterfall and there are different ways to reach each level. The mountains from which the waterfall emerge are in Karnataka and the forest in which they fall is in Goa. The base of the waterfall which is located in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary in the Mollem district of the southern Goa.

How to Reach Dudhsagar falls?
By Train - Trains from both the states ply towards Dudhsagar falls. If you are coming from a place in Maharastra you have to reach Kulem for visiting Dudhsagar falls and the trains which run on this route are Amravati express, Goa express, and Vasco-Kulem daily passenger. If you are coming from a place in Karnataka you have deboard at Castle Rock station, the trains plying from Karnataka are Yesvanthpur-Vasco Da Gama express, Velankanni-Vasco Da Gama express, Chennai-Vasco Da Gama express. Another nearest railway station to Castle Rock is Londa Junction which is 30 km far away.  

By Road - You cannot drive the car till Dudhsagar falls as the road is not accessible. Vehicles can be driven only till Kulem. From Kulem either trek or take a jeep safari via Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Parking is available in Kulem which is a 2 minutes walk from the railway station. The place is at a distance of 80km from Goa, 45 km from Madgaon, 539 km from Bangalore.
