Ethnic Indians dominated Miss Universe Malaysia contest held in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 6 (UITV)- Winning three of the five titles, ethnic Indians dominated the Miss Universe Malaysia contest held in Kuala Lumpur. Kiran Jassal won the crown, while three other beauties among the runners-up bagged what the organizers called ‘subsidiary titles’.

Hosted on January 30 by former Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry and local personality Hansen Lee, the Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 also saw Dhivya Dhyana, Leena Soong and Swarna Naidu,18, named as first, second and third runners-up, respectively.

Kiran, s winner throughout her schooling days, is a dentistry student who has deferred her studies to take part in the competition. She called her entering the contest a leap of faith.

Swarna Naidu won the Miss Body Beauty title. Miss Photogenic title went to Dhivya Dhyana and Nisha Sema won the Miss Congeniality title. The two other winners, Alicia Tan and Lina Soong are ethnic Malaysian Chinese.

The 1996 born Kiran grew up in Subang Jaya, Selangor. The other Indian beauties, having lived in Mumbai, New Zealand and Japan, also accomplished and talented, joined the contest for the ‘high’ it offered.

The crowning of Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 will be broadcast on 8TV on February 24 at 9:30pm, The Star newspaper, one of the official media partner announced.
