Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin content with summit despite lack of concrete results

Helsinki, July 17 (UITV/IANS) - US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday voiced their satisfaction with their first one-on-one meeting here, though acknowledged problems remain.

Although the summit was described by Trump as "a very constructive day" and by Putin as "first important step", questions from reporters about the alleged meddling with US elections by Russia still highlighted the post-summit press conference, Xinhua reported.

New Delhi, July 17 (UITV/IANS) -  After a surprise inspection of one of Delhi's biggest Regional Transport Offices, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday warned of strict action against officers who indulge in corruption with help from touts.

As Kejriwal and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot landed at the RTO office at Burari, scores of agitated drivers of autorickshaws and commercial vehicles virtually mobbed them, complaining that nothing happens without the touts' involvement.

China builds unmanned weather station near border with India

Beijing, July 17 (UITV/IANS) - China has installed an unmanned automatic weather observation station near its border with India in Tibet to support its Army in the event of a live fire conflict with New Delhi.

Beijing plans to set up more such facilities in future in the plateau bordering India.

The station along the Indian border is situated at Yumai township under Lhunze county of Shannan Prefecture in Tibet and could provide data to help with transportation and communication in national defence, the state-run Global Times reported.

It could also offer support during regional live-fire conflicts.

Suspect in killing of Indian student in US shot dead

New York, July 17 (UITV/IANS) - A man who was a suspect in the killing of an Indian student in Kansas City has been shot dead by police after he shot and wounded three officers on Sunday, according to media reports.

The man, who had been under surveillance in connection with the fatal shooting of Sharath Koppu on July 6 at a restaurant, was killed during an exchange of fire with police on Sunday, the Kansas City Star newspaper reported.

Koppu, 25, a student from Telengana, was shot dead at the restaurant during what appeared to be a robbery.

He had come to the US in January and was doing his master's in computer science at University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Police had been on the lookout for the suspect, who has not been identified, at several locations and he "popped up" at a motel, the newspaper quoted city police chief Rick Smith was quoted as saying by the paper.

When two undercover police went to the motel, the suspect shot and wounded them before fleeing with another person, police said.

Don't want to play villain anymore: Actor Jim Sarbh

Mumbai, July 17 (UITV/IANS)- Actor Jim Sarbh, who is known for portraying negative characters in films like "Neerja", "Padmaavat" and "Sanju", says he doesn't want to do negative roles anymore.

On Zoom's TV show "Open House with Renil", the actor spoke about his journey from being a theatre actor to a super-villain in Bollywood with host Renil Abraham, said a statement.

Novel drug therapy may potentially help treat ALS

New York, July 17 (UITV/IANS)- Administering a therapy using DNA-based compounds could extend survival and reverse signs of neuromuscular damage in animals of inherited amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), finds a study.

ALS is a progressive fatal disease that kills the nerve cells that controls walking, eating and breathing, about one fifth of which are caused due to mutations in a gene called SOD1.

These mutations cause the SOD1 protein to be overly active, which suggests that reducing protein levels might help ALS patients, the researchers said.
