Death toll rises to 4 in France's Strasbourg shooting

Paris, Dec 12 (UITV/IANS) - The death toll of the shooting near a Christmas market in the French city of Strasbourg on Tuesday evening has risen to four, several were wounded, media reported.

Security officers have cordoned off the area, while the injured were transported to a local hospital center, reports Xinhua news agency.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner told reporters that several of the wounded were in critical condition and that he was heading to Strasbourg.

"Our security and rescue services are mobilised," Castaner added.

Man jailed in UAE for calling fiancée 'idiot' on WhatsApp

Abu Dhabi, Dec 12 (UITV/IANS) - A man has been jailed here for 60 days and fined 20,000 dirhams (around Rs 4 lakh) for calling his fiancée an "idiot" in a WhatsApp message.

The man claimed to have used the word in a joking manner but his fiancée took it as an insult and filed a court case against him, the Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.

This case, the daily said, was one of the several court cases filed on the premise of a person sending something on WhatsApp as a "joke", which the other person took "seriously".

Jailed Myanmar journalists mark 1 year in prison

Yangon, Dec 12 (UITV/IANS) - Two Myanmar journalists, who were named Person of the Year by Time magazine, completed a year in prison on Wednesday.

Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly compromising state secrets, while investigating a story on the Rohingya crisis in Rakhine state, reports Efe news.

"A year ago, Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were arrested in a setup by police, intended to interfere with the reporting on a massacre in Myanmar," said Stephen J Adler, Editor-in-Chief, Reuters.

NASA's InSight sends back first selfie on Mars

Washington, Dec 12 (UITV/IANS)- Barely two weeks after touching down on Mars, NASA's InSight lander has taken its first selfie using the spacecraft's robotic arm, the US space agency has said.

InSight landed safely at Elysium Planitia on Mars on November 26, kicking off a two-year mission to explore the deep interior of the Red Planet.

On December 6, the InSight lander used a camera on its robotic arm to take its first selfie -- a mosaic made up of 11 images. The image includes the lander's solar panel and its entire deck, including its science instruments, weather sensor booms and UHF antenna, NASA said in a statement on Wednesday.
