Indian Navy deploys maritime reconnaissance aircraft to Seychelles for surveillance

Indian Navy deploys P 8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft to Seychelles since 20/3 for EEZ surveillance, as per inter-gov MoU.

New Delhi, March 22 (UITV)- In a boost to geo-strategic relations, Indian Navy has deployed one of its advanced maritime reconnaissance plane P-81 to Seychelles for surveillance in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Indian Ocean island country.

This is the first time that the Boeing P-81 aircraft has been deployed to Seychelles. The move to deploy an aircraft to Seychelles was taken in accordance with the MoU signed between the Indian and the Seychelles government. The aircraft has been in Seychelles since March 20, and it will remain deployed till March 23.

“The Indian Navy has, in the past undertaken surveillance mission in the Seychello is EEZ twice a year, by deploying its ships. The last such deployment was undertaken by ships of the 1st training Squadron of the Indian Navy, in October 2015,” said a Ministry of Defence press release.

The aircraft deployment would assist in curbing illegal activities and piracy as well as contribute towards security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. The P-81 aircraft deployment is a economical, faster and most effective option than the naval ships, and is a indicator of India’s commitment towards ensuring the security of Seychelles EEZ.
