Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce honors Indian-origin personalities

Toronto, June 13 (UITV)- Some famous Indian-origin personalities were honored at the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Award Night on June 11 at Metro Toronto Convention Center, downtown Toronto. The event was attended by 600 people, which included Indi-Canadians and other from the Bay Street and elsewhere.

The Annual Gala and Awards Night are a premier social and business events for all Indo-Canadians. The event promotes trade and commerce between India and Canada, and recognizes the achievements of Indo-Canadians from all across Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commended the “ingenuity and perseverance” of Indo-Canadians and for nurturing the ties of trade and friendship between Canada and India. In his message to members of ICCC on Award night, Trudeau said: “Canada’s ethnic, religious and racial diversity allows all member of society to live, work and thrive together in harmony.”

Chamber’s President Sanjay Makka and Indian High Commissioner Vishnu Prakash stood on the stage and to hand over Chamber’s specially crafted trophy to award recipients in various categories.

Geeta Sankappanavar , co-founder, President and Chief Operating Officer of Grafton Asset Management has got prize for Female Entrepreneur and Karnil Singh Sidhu, owner of the Kalala Organic Estate Winery honored for Male Entrepreneur.

Aditya Mohan was awarded with ‘Young Achiever’ trophy for his work on biofuels and HIV research and Dr. Virendra Jha (known for his contributions to Canada’s space program) honored with Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement.  

Corporate Executive award went to Pavi Binning, President and CEO of $45 billion George Weston Limited. Bharat Masrani, Toronto Dominion Bank’s President and CEO got ‘President’s Award’.

For last two decades, the ICCC has recognized Indo-Canadians for their contribution in different spheres.
