Ipanema Beach, Brazil- one of the most beautiful beaches in the world

Ipanema scarcely needs any introduction, having been made famous world wide by the classic bossa nova tune Girl From Ipanema.

Brazil, May 25 (Uitv) - There's a reason bikinis and waxes are named "Brazilian". The city's as sizzling as its sexy locals, and this renowned party beach is your chance to totally not stare at them from behind your aviators.

Vendors along the boardwalk sell caipirinhas, and there're plenty of waterfront gyms for pumping your pecs before starting that long, slow stroll down the beach.

Ipanema is an affluent neighbourhood located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, between Leblon and Arpoador.

The beach at Ipanema is known for its elegant development and its social life. Two mountains called the Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers) rise at the western end of the beach, which is divided into segments delineated by postos, or lifeguard towers.

Ipanema is renowned as the haunt of the city's beautiful boys and girls, and its upscale clubs and bars

In the winter the surf can reach nine feet. The water quality varies from clear light-blue water to a more murky green after heavy rains. Constant swells help keep the water clean, and the often treacherous beach break regularly forms surfable barrels.

It was here that Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Morais penned the lyrics to "The Girl from Ipanema." On Sundays the Hippie Fair offers wares from area craftsmen and artists.

And at night, the young and young-at-heart head to Rio's Baixo Farme and Baixo Quiteria, southside streets jammed with bars and cafes.

Accommodation in Ipanema tends to be more expensive than elsewhere in the city, although budget travelers will find plenty of welcoming backpacker options along Rua Barao de Torre.
