Ladakh: the land of high passes

The Himalayan range

Bengaluru, Dec 22 (UiTV) - Ladakh is also known as 'the land of high passes' which is at an altitude of 8,370 feet from the mean sea level. It is on the Himalayan range and has been one of the adventurous places for snow trekkers. The place has many beautiful valleys and lakes that give a majestic look at the time of sunrise and sunset. Ladakh is now a part of the union territory of India and constituting a part of the larger Kashmir region. Earlier Ladhak was a trade route between India and China but Chinese officials closed the route in the 1960s and trade fell off between the two countries but the Indian Government encouraged tourism in Ladakh in the 1970s. Leh is the largest city in Ladakh and it contains river valleys of Indus, Shyok, and Nubra.

The Ladakh territory is filled with many beautiful green and white places. The best season to visit the Ladakh region is during summer that is between the months of April-May. In the winter season, the temperature freezes and is very difficult for common people to survive as Ladakh is at high altitude. Most people also experience altitude sickness and difficulty in breathing due to low oxygen levels at high altitudes.
