Minister of State for Human Resource Development receiving Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth of Mauritius on his arrival in New Delhi

India, May 26 (Uitv) - Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth arrived in New Delhi, India today and India will host the Indian Ocean Island PM for the next two days.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the Mauritius Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This would be Jugnauth's first abroad visit after taking over as the Prime Minister from his father, Anerood Jugnauth in January.

Shortly after landing, the Mauritius Prime Minister would visit Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Among his officials engagement, Jugnauth would call on President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari

He would attend a session on economic development which will also be attended by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, among other leaders.

Prime Minister Jugnauth will also address a business event in New Delhi, jointly organised by Charmers and Commerce of Industry (CII), FICCI and ASSOCHAM

The main motive of Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth

Honourable Prime Minister of Mauritius is here to talk to One Belt One Road (OBOR).

The Chinese have proposed this, to expand its presence in the region under its 'one belt and one road' (OBOR) initiative.

The OBOR plan will help Mauritius build its local economy. An don the Indian side, the contribution of the Indian Diaspora in those countries will have a contribution in percentage of FDI from those countries.

So it is an win-win situation.

The Important discussion between the two stalwarts of politics in the world

This will be Jugnauth's first official visit overseas after taking over as prime minister from his father, Anerood Jugnauth, in January 2017.

While China's strategic partnership with Mauritius is still low key--unlike Myanmar, Pakistan and Maldives--India clearly is in no mood to cede space to Beijing in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), where New Delhi has deep security and economic interests.

The Stand From Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Government

The Narendra Modi government announced its Indian Ocean Region Policy during the PM's three-nation trip to Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka in March 2015.

During the trip, when Modi was the chief guest at the Mauritian National Day celebrations, the two sides had expanded their security partnership..

Modi has taken an indirect dig at China by launching the naval vessel for safeguarding Mauritius maritime coast.

PM of Mauritius Comments when he came before the media reporters

"Our vision for the Indian Ocean Region is rooted in advancing cooperation in our region; and, to use our capabilities for the benefit of all in our common maritime home...One, we will do everything to safeguard our mainland and islands and defend our interests...Second, we will deepen our economic and security cooperation with our friends in the region, especially our maritime neighbours and island states” he said

"Long-standing training links with India continue to augment the capability of the Mauritian security forces, while Indian assistance has enabled Mauritius to establish an effective force of maritime reconnaissance aircraft and a coastal radar network. These assets, combined with Indian capacity building efforts in the Seychelles, have enhanced maritime security in the southern Indian Ocean," according to a paper, 'The Mauritius-India Naval Relationship: Naval Diplomacy 2.0”

Mauritius looks up to India as partner in developing its security capabilities. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard have quietly rebuilt, restructured and enhanced the capabilities of the Mauritian National Coast Guard (NCG).

Indian warships have often performed the vital function of patrolling the Mauritian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
