Lord Shiva's Statue at Murdeshwar Temple

Bengaluru, May 27(UiTV) - Murdeshwar is a place located on the coast of the Arabian Sea in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka. The statue of Hindu God Shiva at Murdeshwar Temple is the second tallest statue of Shiva in the world. Murdeshwar is another form of Lord Shiva and hence the place got its name and the temple is the perfect example of the architecture of the Kings of Vijayanagara dynasty.  The temple is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides and is built on the hill of Kanduka and there is Murdeshwar beach beside the temple and 20 storied gopuras built in front of the temple called Raja Gopura.

The statue of Lord Shiva is 123 feet high(37 meters), the second tallest statue of Shiva after Kailashnath Mahadev Statue situated in Nepal. The place attracts lots of tourists across the world. Murdeshwar beach which also supports boating is a good place to enjoy in groups.

How to reach Murdeshwar:
By Road: It is located about 500 km from Bengaluru, 155 km from Mangaluru, and 12 km from Bhatkal. Public buses from various parts of Karnataka drive there.

By Railways: The place has a railway station. Trains ply frequently from Karwar routes but a very few halts there. The station is 2 km away from the temple.

By Air: The nearest airport is the Mangalore International airport which is 158 km far from the city.

Morning Puja – 6:30 am to 7:30 am

Afternoon Mahapuja - 12:15 pm to 1 pm

Night Puja - 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm

Day Timing – Opens at 6 am and closes at 8:30 pm.

Lunch Timing – 1 pm to 3 pm

Best time to visit:
Non-monsoon time November to February.
