Bengaluru, Sep 9 (UITV): Nandi hill is an amazing small hill near Garden city, Bengaluru.  This is the ancient hill fortress in southern India, in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state. It is also known as Nandidurg. The hill is located close to the Kempegowda International Airport and almost 61 km from Bengaluru city as well as 10 km from Chickballapur town. Generally, Nandi hills recognized as a great trekking place.

 The hills are located about 20 km from the National Highway (NH-7) just after Devanahalli Town. The destination stands at 4,851 feet (1,479 metre) above sea level.  People like to visit Nandi Hills mainly to view the beauty of the stunning sunrise above the clouds in the early morning. To relieve stress from busy and hectic life, peoples are rushing towards Nandi hills during weekends and holidays. Also, the morning breeze from the land that rejuvenates every cell of your body makes you happy.

There are so many different stories about the origin of the name of Nandi Hills. According to the study, the name hills originated from the shape of a hill, which likes a sleeping bull. During Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Ananda Giri, which means “The Hill of Happiess”. Another story is that Yoga Nandeeshwara performed penance here, and so it was named after him. Nandi is also commonly called Nandidurga (Fort) because of the fort built here by the ruler Tippu Sultan.

Nandi Hills is the one of the weekend gateway options for travelers living in Bengaluru.  The best season or months to visit are February to December. There are almost 10 tourist places in Nandi Hills. Tourist attractions on the Hills are Tipu’s Drop, Tipu’s Summer Palace and Fort, Horse Way, Secret Escape Route, Temples, Gavi Veerbhadra Swamy temple, Children’s Playground, Nehru Nilaya, The Horticulture Department, rivers, Brahmashram, Paragliding, cycling/biking. Apart from these, there are other interesting places like Anjaneya temple, Nellikayi Basavanna, Antaragange, Baananthi Bande, etc.
