Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin talk over phone on COVID-19, global issues

Washington, March 31 (UITV/IANS)- US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed efforts to combat COVID-19 and other global issues during a phone conversation, the White House said.

"President Trump and President Putin discussed the latest developments and efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The two leaders agreed to work closely together through the G20 to drive the international campaign to defeat the virus and reinvigorate the global economy," the White House said in a statement on Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Major lapse: Buses full of migrants allowed out of Ranchi

Ranchi, March 31 (UITV/IANS)- As the fear of community spread of coronavirus looms large, a major lapse on the part of the Jharkhand government officials has emerged in Ranchi. The District Magistrate allowed 8 buses full of people to move out of the city on March 29 without getting them medically tested.

What is alarming is that most of them had come from different partsf the country and were on their way to their villages. They were not even screened or tested for the virus.

Seoul, March 31 (UITV/IANS)- North Korea has slammed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for seeking continued international pressure against Pyongyang while calling for the resumption of dialogue, state media reported.

In a statement carried by the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the country's "new director" in charge of negotiations with the US threatened Pyongyang will take its "own way" amid stalled talks over its nuclear program, the Seoul-based Yonhap news Agency reported.

Indian Asst Secy Gen quit for 'family reasons': UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric

United Nations, March 30 (IANS) An Indian Assistant Secretary General dealing with the UN pension fund investments resigned for "personal and family reasons," a spokesperson said on Monday.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Secretary General Antonio Guterres, giving the reason for Sudhir Rajkumar's sudden resignation, said Guterres has accepted his resignation during "a unique and difficult time in the financial markets".

Rajkumar also held the title of Representative of the Secretary-General for the Investment of the Assets of the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund.

The resignation is to be effective Tuesday, Dujarric said

Asked about the sudden announcement of the resignation that was made on a Sunday, Dujarric said: "It's clearly a volatile time for the global markets and the Secretary General fully recognises that this is a unique and difficult time in the financial markets as we all know and he thought it necessary to act quickly and decisively to appoint an interim representative".

Salman Khan's nephew Abdullah Khan no more

Mumbai, March 31 (UITV/IANS)- Salman Khan's nephew Abdullah Khan passed away on Monday. As per reports, the 38-year-old was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai owing to heart-related ailments.

The Bollywood superstar took to social media to mourn the loss of his nephew. Salman posted a black and white photograph with his nephew on Instagram and wrote: "Will always love you..."

Commenting on the post, actress Akanksha Puri wrote: "Still can't believe he is no more. #gonetoosoon. Deepest condolence to the entire family! May his soul R.I.P"

Singer Kamaal Khan, who is a close friend of the actor, commented: "You will always be remembered...

Beijing, March 31 (UITV/IANS) Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has said that its Wuhan Headquarters has officially resumed its operations.

The company sent the first batch of employees to the site with "epidemic care packages" that included masks, hand sanitizer and a red envelope, reports GizmoChina.

Xiaomi will operate on stricter prevention and control measures such as two temperature measurements, two masks, and a meal sharing system as well, all to build a strong defense against the recent Coronavirus pandemic.

The headquarters was forced to shut down after confirmed cases of infection surfaced on January 20.
