US child migrants: Melania calls for end to Trump's separation policy

Washington, June 18 (UITV/IANS) - US First Lady Melania Trump has called for an end to the policy of separating parents and children illegally entering the country from Mexico.

"Mrs Trump believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart," her spokeswoman said.

Her comments follow growing controversy over President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy, a BBC report said.

In a recent six-week period there were nearly 2,000 family separations.

Canadian citizen among four held as Punjab Police bust drug racket

Chandigarh, June 18 (UITV/IANS) - The Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have busted an international drugs smuggling racket with the arrest of four persons, including a Canadian national of Indian-origin.

A senior police officer said that the gang was using the courier services route to smuggle drugs abroad. The drugs were being hidden in traditional utensils being couriered to Canada.

The module was involved in smuggling opium and the potent date rape drug ketamine.

Additional Inspector General of Police, Counter Intelligence H.K.P.S. Khakh said the police was chasing Canadian national Davinder Dev for some time.

The arrests were made from Jalandhar district.

"The racket was found to be masterminded by Canadian citizens Kamaljit Singh Chauhan, residing in Toronto, and Davinder Nirwal also known as Dev," Khakh said in a statement on Sunday.

"Dev, a big name in the drug smuggling world, had been under close watch by the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)," said Khakh, who strategized the joint operation undertaken by the Counter Intelligence Wing and police in Jalandhar Rural.

Volcanic eruptions behind mysterious Martian rock formation: Study

Washington, June 18 (UITV/IANS)- Explosive volcanic eruptions that shot jets of hot ash, rock and gas skyward are the probable source of a mysterious Martian rock formation near the planet's equator, says a new study.

The Medusae Fossae Formation is a massive, unusual deposit of soft rock with undulating hills and abrupt mesas.

Scientists first observed the Medusae Fossae with NASA's Mariner spacecraft in the 1960s but were perplexed as to how it formed.

The current study, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets, suggests the formation was deposited during explosive volcanic eruptions on the Red Planet more than...

AI helps radio journalist regain voice

London, June 18 (UITV/IANS)- A US radio journalist who had lost his voice two years ago due to a rare neurological condition has regained the ability to speak, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), the media reported.

Jamie Dupree, 54, a political radio journalist with Cox Media Group, got a new voice that trained a neural network to predict how he would talk, using samples from his old voice recordings, the BBC reported.

With his new voice, Dupree can now write a script and then use a free text-to-speech software programme called Balabolka on his laptop to turn it into an audio recording.
