Pravind Jugnauth's Bhojpuri wows Indians in 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Varanasi, 22 Jan (UITV) - Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth attended 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas as a chief guest in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), India. He caught people's attention by starting his address in Bhojpuri language which is an Indo-Aryan language chiefly spoken in western Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Most of Indians who were migrated to Mauritius during indenture period belong to Bihar whose communication was carried out through Bhojpuri, that is why Mauritius PM has spoken little time in Bhojpuri.

People were impressed by his Bhojpuri touch in his speech, they reflected back with loud cheers. He also used Hindi several times during his address.

“If India is unique, Indianness is universal,” Jugnauth said in the presence of dignitaries. He praised PM Modi by pointing towards initiatives like Skill India, Digital India, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Smart city, Start Up, India Swachch Bharat, Ayushman Bharat and many others.

According to Pravind Jugnauth diaspora connect plays a very important role to attain development. He said that there are many roles which could be played by Indian diaspora to grow India and he also requested Indian government to maintain relations with countries where high number Indian diaspora are located.

He told that the world applauds the impressive economic performance of India and the transformation of India under the leadership of Modi ji.

He has invited people for Bhojpuri festival which will take place in Mauritius to raise awareness of Bhojpuri language in his country. The Festival would promote intercultural exchange between India and Mauritius.
