Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has lauded the Indian diaspora in Africa

New Delhi, June 15 (UITV)- Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has lauded the Indian diaspora in Africa and emphasized on the power of the 10,000 strong Indian communities in Ghana. The President said that the Indian community in Ghana is a vibrant amalgam of individuals from different walks of life, be they professionals, academics, businessmen, women, bankers, doctors and students etc.

“Each individual has a unique story to tell inspiring and motivating many others to do greater things,” President said in his address to the Indian community at a reception function at Accra in Ghana on June 13.

While the President said that his visit to Africa is to send out the message that India stands by Africa, he assured the people of Ghana that the bilateral ties are “abiding and enduring.” He said that the people of Ghana can see a microcosm of Indian diversity and plurality, and added that they, like the rest of the 25 million strong Indian diaspora across the world, had one thing in common – “A sense of bonding with the idea that is India”.

The President said that the effort of the Indian community in Ghana is complementing many foreign policy measures taken by the government of India to assist the friendly countries in Africa, including Ghana. The 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi in October last year provided a medium to long-term vision for India’s cooperation with Africa. The Indian diaspora in Africa will have an important role to play in accomplishing some of the objectives of this vision.

The President congratulated all of them for making India proud through their contributions to the socio-economic development of Ghana. He asked them to actively take part in various programmes the Government of India has embarked upon such as Digital India, Stand-Up India, and Start- up India, Skill India and Swachch Bharat etc.
