Shah Rukh Khan owned CPL team Red Steel renamed Trinbago Knight Riders

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UITV)- Trinidad and Tobago franchise, which is co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has been re-branded as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) from the previous name of Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The franchise was purchased last season by businessman and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who is also a co-owner of established Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel clinched the CPL for the first time in 2015, defeating the Barbados Tridents in the final at their home ground of Queens’s Park Oval.

“It is a great to become part of the rich cricketing tradition of Trinidad and Tobago. We will do everything to uphold the tradition and thank all the people of Trinbago in advance of their passion and support,” Shah Rukh Khan, Co-owner of Trinbago Knight Riders said.

Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR said that the acquisition of the Trinbago franchise is consistent with the company’s vision to expand the “Knight Riders” brand globally.

“We are proud that the powerful KKR brand we have built in India as part of the IPL as well as the ever growing fan base. We now look forward to expanding our brand in Trinbago as well as the entire Caribbean as part of the CPL,” he added.

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel have been one of the most successful teams, reaching the semi-finals of the inaugural tournament in 2013 and the following year.
