UAE NRI Businessman Dr. Sundar Menon receives Padma Shri

Dr Sundar Menon

New Delhi, March 30 (UITV)- Dr Sundar Menon, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Group International was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India’s civilian honours from President Pranab Mukherjee for his social work.

Dr Menon was among 112 people who were recognised and awarded by the Government of India for their contribution to the country and society. He is equally renowned for his entrepreneurial achievements and philanthropic contributions.

Padma Shri has been given to Dr Menon for his contribution towards socioeconomic upliftment of the underprivileged in the rural backwards of Kerala in South India. His organisation, the Sun Charitable Trust, has adopted a few villages in Kerala and taken a lot of initiatives for improving the lives of the rural folks through better means of education and clean toilets etc.

His social work is not limited within Kerala, Sun Charitable Trust played a remarkable role in rescue and relief operations during the flood that devastated the Indian state of Uttarakhand in 2013 and joined the ‘Clean India’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr Sundar Menon is also president of the Kerala State Elephant Owner’s Cooperative Society, which played an important role in modernization of the elephant care system in Kerala and implementation of welfare policies for elephant owners.

Dr Menon is a member of some 40 charity organisations in different parts of the world.
