New Zealand Health Minister David Clark resigns amid criticism

Wellington, July 2 (UITV/IANS)- New Zealand Health Minister David Clark on Thursday announced that he decided to resignand leave the cabinet amid criticism.

The surprise announcement came amid months of public outcry on Clark's dereliction of duty during and after the country's COVID-19 lockdown, reports Xinhua news agency.

Clark had planned to attend a ribbon-cutting event in Palmerston North for a cancer facility, but made the surprise announcement at a press conference Thursday morning local time.

Indian Army Brigadier dies of Covid-19 in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 2 (UITV/IANS)- An Indian Army Brigadier posted at the Eastern Command headquarters died of Covid-19 on Thursday in Kolkata.

Brigadier Bikash Sanyal was posted at the Fort William and was detected with Covid-19.

He was admitted to the Army's Command Hospital at Alipur, sources at the Eastern Command said.

Sources said his wife and daughter have also tested Covid-19 positive and are now undergoing treatment.

Officials are now trying to find out who all came in contact with Sanyal and his family during the past few days.

Nearly 78 percent of Russian voters back constitutional reforms

Moscow, July 2 (UITV/IANS)- Nearly 78 per cent of Russian voters backed constitutional reforms that could keep President Vladimir Putin in power until 2036, election officials said on Thursday.

With all the ballots counted, 77.9 per cent voted for the reform package and 21.3 per cent against, the BBC quoted the electoral commission as saying.

According to the officials, turnout among the 109 million eligible voters was 65 per cent.

The highest levels of support - above 90% - were in Crimea, annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014, in Chechnya in the North Caucasus, and Tuva, in Siberia.

155 companies of indian origin have over $22 bn investments in US: Report

New Delhi, June 17 (UITV/IANS) A total of 155 companies with origins in India are responsible for generating over $22 billion in investments and nearly 1.25 lakh jobs in the US, according to a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The report titled 'Indian Roots, American Soil 2020' showed that the states with the top concentrations of Indian companies reporting were New Jersey, Texas, California, New York, Illinois and Georgia.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) and research and development expenditure of the companies stood at $175 million and $900 million, respectively.

Texas, California, New Jersey, New York, and Florida are home to the greatest number of workers in the US directly employed by the reporting Indian companies.

The surveyed companies disclosed the highest amounts of foreign direct investment (FDI) were in Texas, New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts.

Indian investments in 20 US states stand at over $100 million each, showed the survey.

New Delhi, July 2 (UITV/IANS)-  Esme Creed-Miles feels it is fun to get into the skin of a character without relating to it on any level. The "Hanna" star says it is a privilege that actors enjoy, and she cherishes that escape.

SC accepts CBSE notification cancelling Class 10, 12 Board exams

New Delhi, June 26 (UITV/IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday accepted the draft notification issued by the CBSE in connection with the assessment scheme for the Board examination cancelled for Class 10 and Class 12.

The Central Board of Secondary Education filed an affidavit in the top court detailing the assessment scheme. According to the notification, for students who have appeared in the examinations in more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.

San Francisco, July 2 (UITV/IANS) Twitter has taken action against US President Donald Trump, this time removing an image he tweeted, saying the image violated the companys privacy policy.

Trump's tweet showed a "meme" version of a photo taken by The New York Times in 2015. Trump tweeted along with the photo: "In reality they're not after me, they're after you. I'm just in the way".

After the NYT complained to Twitter, the micro-blogging platform removed the picture. The tweet now shows "media not displayed" notification on Trump's tweet.
