Vijay Singh in action at last year's Fiji International Golf tournament

Fiji, Oct 5 (UITV)- Former World number one Vijay Singh has returned home to Fiji, and is looking forward to the start of this year’s Fiji International Golf tournament.

As Fiji’s biggest global sports star, Singh is an enthusiastic supporter of Fiji’s biggest sporting event and has a fine record, finishing in the top ten in both 2014 and 2015.

After falling short two times, Singh said he is better prepared this time around. “I’m learning the golf course more and it will be nice to win here, I’m looking forward to it and more focus this year to win the tournament.”

The 53-year-old is a 13-time winner on the European Tour with his last victory coming at the 2008 Bridgestone Invitational, although his last regular win came seven years before that at the Caltex Singapore Masters.

Singh was the special guest at last night’s welcoming dinners where the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama together with other tournament ambassadors. Mr. Bainimarama said the Fiji International advances to a whole new level through its partnership with the European Tour, making the special moment for sport in Fiji.

The Beautiful Natadola Bay Golf Club plays host to a European Tour event for the first time as the Fiji International takes its place on the International Schedule co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia.
