20,000 protesters participate in Chicago demonstration

Chicago, Jun 07 (UITV/IANS) - An estimated 20,000 protesters participated in the "Chicago March of Justice" to demand justice for George Floyd, the unarmed African-American who died in police custody on May 25 in Minneapolis.

On Saturday, the protesters, holding signs and stretching about seven blocks, gathered in a park west of Chicago to voice their demand.

They listened to activists, poets and others, demanding police accountability and the dismantling of systemic racism.

They also asked for immediate release of all protesters in custody, as well as criminal prosecution of all police who abuse demonstrators.

No gas leak found in Mumbai, says fire brigade

Mumbai, Jun 07 (UITV/IANS) - The Mumbai fire brigade has not come across any gas leak incident during visits to different places in the metropolis during the night, officials said here on Sunday.

As many as 17 fire engines along with senior officers were sent to various locations in Chembur, Mankhurd, Ghatkopar, Powai, and Andheri following complaints about gas leaks since late Saturday night.

The fire brigade men covered an area spread over several square kms to locate the source of the alleged gas leak, including a search at the US Vitamin Company in Govandi east.

China no longer has serious coronavirus patients

Beijing, Jun 07 (UITV/IANS) - There is no serious COVID-19 patient left in China, the health authorities said on Sunday, even as the country reported six new cases of the novel coronavirus, three more than a day ago.

This is for the first time since the pandemic originated in the city of Wuhan last December that the Chinese health authorities have claimed that there were no serious patients of the coronavirus infection now, reports Efe news.

The National Health Commission said the last COVID-19 patient in a serious condition was out of danger now even as there were still 70 active infected patients left in mainland China.

MEA: Indians with global citizenship help stranded indians substantially

NEW DELHI, May 28 (UITV): The Indian diaspora in several countries has entered to help the thousands of Indians who were stranded ensuing the lockdown, Sanjay Bhattacharyya, secretary, overseas Indianaffairs and consular passports visas, ministry of external affairs, said addressing several people of Indian origin around the world, on Wednesday.
“People of Indian origin overseas are an energetic and powerful community and it is appreciated that they came forward to help their Indian brothers and sisters with food, shelter, counselling and in several other ways,” he said at a webinar dialogue on economic engagement between India and its diaspora arranged by the PIO Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

New Delhi, June 7 (UITV/IANS) Veteran actor Anupam Kher has released his autobiographical play "Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai" on his new website. He feels the play will give some hope to people during these stressful times.

"Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai", directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, offers a glance of Anupam's failures, triumphs and life lessons, as the actor sets out to depict ordinary people.

Lucknow, June 6 (UITV/IANS) Police on Saturday arrested Anamika Shukla, a teacher who allegedly worked in 25 schools for months and withdrew over Rs one crore in salaries for more than a year till February last.

Kotwali SHO Ripudaman Singh said that police was questioning the accused.

Anamika had sent her resignation letter to the Kasganj Basic Education Officer through a friend who was detained at the office. Later, the officer sent some staff who caught hold of the teacher on a road and handed her to Soro police station.

Twitter and Facebook remove Trump campaign video

San Francisco, June 6 (UITV/IANS) Twitter and Facebook have disabled a Donald Trump campaign video over copyright violations that slammed "radical leftwing groups" for the protests across the US.

The video posted from @TeamTrump and @TrumpWarRoom accounts was a four-minute tribute to African American George Floyd who died in Minneapolis after a police officer pressed his knee into Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes.

While Twitter disabled the video, Facebook and Instagram removed posts with the video on Trump campaign accounts, reports Vox.
