The world’s tallest statue: Statue of Unity

Bengaluru, Dec 05 (UiTV) - The statue of unity is the world's tallest statue with a height of 182 meters located in Gujarat's Kevadia, India. It took 46 months to design and construct the statue which depicts the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The idea to construct the tallest statue was by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to dedicate and remember the Iron Man of India on his 143rd birth anniversary who united all the 560 princely states of India to form a single union of India at the time of independence in 1947 with the ideology of ‘unity is strength’. It was inaugurated on 31 Oct 2018 by PM Narendra Modi. Now it has emerged as one of the most favorite tourist spots in India and Gujrat.

The construction was completed by the Larsen & Toubro Constructions, at a price of ₹2,989 crores and the design was done by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar. The statue is almost four times taller than the Statue of Liberty and is built in the area of Sardar Sarovar Dam. It has attracted 2.8 million visitors in 2018-19. Visitors can go up to the height of 500 feet within the statue and reach the viewing gallery which is at the chest of the statue.  

Visiting hours:

  • Visitors are allowed to visit the site all day except Monday. The entry gate to the statue of unity opens at 08:00 AM and closes at 06:00 PM.
  • The laser light and sound show start at 07:30 PM.
  • Entry tickets can be purchased between 07:30 AM to 05:00 PM.

All the visitors are screened with tight security at the entrance similar to the airport security screening process. All visitors have to follow safety protocols border to get entry into the site. Check for the list of prohibited items at the site.

The statue of unity can be easily reached from the nearest airports and railway stations.
By airways - Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara are the nearest airports to the site. Daily flights are available from various cities of India and the world.
By railways - Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara are the major railway station near the statue of unity. From here one can reach the site by taking a taxi or by bus.
By roadways - You can drive in your private vehicle to the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The place is well connected with roadways.
