Monkeypox cases are once again on the rise in Indonesia. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has informed that 88 cases of monkeypox have been reported since 2022.
The first case of monkeypox in Indonesia was reported in August 2022. Since then 88 cases of monkeypox have been reported. According to a report by Xinhua news agency, 14 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 2024 alone.
During a press conference in Jakarta, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that monkeypox cases in Indonesia are still under control and the death rate is low, all those who were exposed to monkeypox and became ill are now have recovered
The highest 59 cases of monkeypox were reported in Jakarta. This was followed by 13 cases in West Java, 9 cases in Benton, 3 cases in East Java, 3 cases in Yogyakarta and 1 case in Riau.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government is preparing 4,450 vaccine doses for 2,225 people. In order to prevent this infection from spreading. Out of the 4,450 vaccine doses being prepared, two doses will be given to each person. 495 people were vaccinated in the year 2023.
Yudhi Pramono, interim director general of disease control and prevention at the Ministry of Health, said that between 2022 and 2024 most cases of monkeypox have been reported. These recorded the highest number of monkeypox cases in October 2023.
