New Delhi, Aug 22: The BCCI on Tuesday announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. This time the Asia Cup is going to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which will be played from 30th August, in which the first match will be between Pakistan and Nepal.
A total of 6 teams are playing in this Asia Cup which is divided into 2 groups, Group A consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal, while Group 2 consists of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
India will play under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma this time, Team India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad has been announced on Tuesday, which includes big names as well as many new names.
Captain Rohit Sharma, Subhuman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, M.D. Siraj, M.D. Shami, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Surya kumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson as traveling substitutes.
Asia Cup 2023 is the 16th edition of Asia Cup which will be played in 50 overs ODI format.
In the Asia Cup 2023, both India’s Iyer and Rahul were suffering from injuries for a long time and Now will play directly in the Asia Cup.
It is told the BCCI that both the players are fit and ready to play, although Jasprit Bumrah is also returning after injury, but Bumrah has played in the Ireland series before the Asia Cup and looks completely fit.
There is no Chahal in this squad, on which a lot of questions were raised, on which selector Ajit Agarkar said that it is a bit difficult to have 2 wrist spinners in 1 team and Kuldeep is performing well in this.
Even in this squad, Tilak Verma has been included as a new name, who was with Team India in only 2 series before the Asia Cup and had performed very well, keeping an eye on the judges, he was included in this team.
Regarding this team, Rohit Sharma said that this team is similar to 2011, which includes a lot of all-rounders.
India’s first match will be played against Pakistan on 2nd September.
