Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during Match 29 of the IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences. As this was DC’s first offence of the season, Patel received the standard fine for a first-time violation .
In the match, MI set a target of 206 runs, scoring 205/5 in their 20 overs. DC, in response, were all out for 193 in 19 overs, falling short by 12 runs .
Axar Patel acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in the post-match presentation, stating, “We had the game. I think we had soft dismissals from the middle order, some bad shots. We lost by 12 runs with an over to go so we could have still won it. It can’t happen that your lower-order batters will always save you in chases. There are some odd days where you play wrong shots, so I don’t think there is any point in thinking too much about it.”
This incident adds to a series of slow over-rate penalties in the IPL 2025 season, with other captains like Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag also facing fines for similar offences.
