In a dramatic turn of events during the final league match of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls to chase down a formidable target of 228 set by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This victory not only secured RCB a spot in Qualifier 1 but also marked their highest successful run chase in IPL history.
However, it was Sharma’s post-match celebration that caught widespread attention. As Avesh Khan entered the frame, Sharma swung his helmet in the air—a gesture reminiscent of Khan’s infamous helmet-throwing celebration after LSG’s narrow win over RCB in IPL 2023. RCB’s official social media account took a subtle dig at Khan, posting, “Didn’t throw the helmet. We respect it,” highlighting the contrast in sportsmanship.
Adding to the match’s intensity, a controversial moment arose when LSG’s Digvesh Rathi attempted a ‘Mankad’ dismissal against Sharma. Despite Sharma being out of his crease, LSG captain Rishabh Pant withdrew the appeal, showcasing commendable sportsmanship.
RCB’s triumph also etched their name in the records, becoming the first team in IPL history to win all seven of their away matches in a single season.
