Following Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Jaipur, captain Shreyas Iyer openly criticized his bowlers for their lack of discipline and poor execution, which he believes led to the loss. Despite PBKS posting a formidable total of 206/8, thanks to Iyer’s 53 off 34 balls and Marcus Stoinis’ explosive 44* off 16, DC chased down the target with three balls to spare.
In the post-match presentation, Iyer expressed his disappointment:
“I felt that it was a fantastic score, to be honest, on this wicket because it was helping the seamer. There was some odd bounce, variable bounce, and, yeah, the ball wasn’t coming at the same pace, so I felt that that was overpowering.”
“I think we weren’t disciplined enough in terms of our execution. Once we read the wicket in the first innings, we had planned that we would be bowling hard lengths as much as possible. Right in the stumps. I think we went a bit overboard in terms of bowling bouncers and tried to take wickets. Couldn’t execute that, but a great learning for the boys.”
This defeat has dented PBKS’s hopes of securing a top-two finish in the IPL 2025 playoffs. With only one league match remaining against Mumbai Indians, the team must regroup and focus on executing their plans effectively to bolster their playoff position.
