Colombo, November 9: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday took an important step towards ensuring integrity, transparency and accountability in the management of cricket in Sri Lanka by setting up a new committee. This proactive step is aimed at preventing corruption, malpractices, irregularities, malpractices and failures while protecting the autonomy of the institution.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the SLC expressed its strong commitment to maintain the core principles of integrity, transparency and accountability in the administration of cricket in Sri Lanka. The organisation, in line with this commitment, has actively invited eminent persons appointed by the Sports Minister, as per a recent Gazette notification, to form an independent committee.
The committee includes retired Supreme Court judge S. Eminent members include I. Imam; Rohini Marasinghe, another retired Supreme Court judge; and Irangani Perera, a retired High Court judge. The mandate of the Committee includes key responsibilities:
To inquire and suggest appropriate action in response to the issues highlighted in the audit report dated 11 September 2023 issued by the Auditor. To formulate recommendations and strategic plans to prevent corruption, misconduct, irregularities, malpractices and failures identified in the above audit reports.

Earlier in the week, Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasingha dissolved the country’s cricket board and established an interim committee led by former cricketer Arjuna Ranatunga to take charge of the SLC.
Following this decision, President Ranil Wickremesinghe sought an immediate explanation from Ranasinghe, and questioned the unilateral move without consulting him or the Cabinet. Reports said that he came to know about the suspension of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and the appointment of an interim committee only through the news.
Subsequently, a Cabinet meeting was convened later that evening, in which a four-member Cabinet sub-committee was appointed under the leadership of Minister Ali Sabri, along with Ministers Kanchana Wijesekara, Manusha Nanayakkara, to oversee the future activities of the SLC and review the Gazette. and Tiran Alese. Notification of appointment of members of the interim committee.
SLC also stressed its commitment to rectify any deficiencies or irregularities in its operations and promised to take corrective actions to enhance transparency and integrity.
