The commencement of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just three months away, following the mini-auction that took place on December 19 in Dubai. With teams actively preparing for the upcoming season, there remains speculation about MS Dhoni’s future with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While the legendary captain will be part of the tournament in 2024, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan addressed the uncertainty surrounding whether this would be Dhoni’s final season.
“I do not know about that. As far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not inform us about his future plans,” stated Viswanathan, as quoted by The Indian Express.
Having undergone knee surgery in early June this year, Dhoni is currently in the rehabilitation phase. The player is expected to regain match fitness well before the commencement of IPL 2024.
“He is progressing well. He has commenced his rehabilitation, started gym sessions, and is likely to resume net practice in about 10 days,” added Viswanathan.
In their quest to defend the IPL title, CSK made noteworthy acquisitions during the Players Auction in Dubai on December 19. Led by MS Dhoni, the team secured six players, with New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell emerging as their most expensive purchase at Rs 14 crore. CSK surprised many by securing uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore. Additionally, the team retained Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was released by KKR.
