Oliver Kahn launches football academy in India

Mumbai, November 12: German goalkeeping legend Oliver Kahn has launched the Oliver Kahn Academy in India with an aim to revolutionize football education and development in the country. The academy plans to establish football and goalkeeping academies in collaboration with football clubs, sports academies and educational institutions across India.

 

Expressing his confidence in India’s untapped football talent, Kahn said, “India is a country with huge potential in football. What this country needs is the right football education, a disciplined curriculum and world-class facilities to develop the game. Our aim is to make India a better playing nation and I am confident that this country has the potential to thrive on the global football stage.”

 

 

All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Choubey welcomed Kahn to India, expressing his respect in a statement on X. In his discussion on Indian football development, he discussed various topics including the possible setting up of a goalkeeping academy. Choubey wished Kahn a pleasant stay in India.

 

The initiative marks Kahn’s return to India, his last visit being in 2008 when he played his farewell match for Bayern Munich against Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, a match which the German club won 3-0 .
